General Gastroenterology

Our GI physicians work collaboratively with other physicians to treat the full spectrum of digestive disease. Many of our physicians are also educators, actively engaged in teaching the next generation of GI physicians by fostering a learning environment that emphasizes evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and compassionate care.

The services we provide include:
• Colorectal cancer screening
• Diagnosis and management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
• Interventions to treat gastrointestinal bleeding
• Evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, GERD, diarrhea, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome

Interventional Endoscopy Service

The IES physicians at SWBMG offer state-of-the-art endoscopic expertise to manage digestive tract disease and cancer while in pursuit of possible cures. In addition, we work to advance the development of next-generation procedures that will replace surgery. Our doctors have invented and pioneered notable instruments and procedures used in the daily work of interventional endoscopy including the lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS) and the underwater endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). In addition, our team has published over 300 papers and presented at more than 500 national and international talks to advance the field. We are proud to participate in multiple outcome-based studies comparing new techniques with standard technologies, abiding by a mission to push interventional endoscopy techniques to become as safe and effective as possible.

Neurogastroenterology & Motility

Our neurogastroenterology & motility specialty physicians are highly trained with focus on conditions such as gastroparesis, achalasia, refractory GERD, fecal incontinence, and bowel dysmotility. Their expertise includes advanced diagnostic techniques with the full-spectrum of motility testing, and specialized treatments ranging from dietary and lifestyle modifications to pharmacological therapies and electrical neurostimulation.
They have a deep understanding of the complex interplay between the nervous system and the digestive organs. They are at the forefront of addressing GI issues that are often challenging to treat with conventional methods. Their goal is to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from chronic digestive conditions by providing personalized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.

Hepatology

Our Hepatology group features highly specialized, patient-centered providers with a large clinical footprint and diverse clinical and academic interests. All division members run a clinical program or have a specialized area of interest in addition to seeing general hepatology and liver transplant patients.

We are active in national societies such as AASLD, American Society of Transplant, American Liver Foundation, PSC Partners, and locally as leaders within SWBMG and the Northern California Society for Clinical Gastroenterology. Our division members engage in translational research, clinical trials, and investigator-initiated research, supported by national and local grants. Their work is published in prestigious journals of Hepatology and Gastroenterology.
